Audiologists
Our Raleigh Audiologists
Audiology is a branch of medicine that specializes in hearing, balance, and related disorders. Employing various testing strategies, e.g. hearing tests, otoacoustic emission measurements, electronystagmography, and electrophysiological tests, audiologists determine whether or not hearing is within the normal range, and if not, which anatomical part of the ear and hearing system is disordered as well as which frequencies in the hearing spectrum (high, middle, or low) are affected and to what degree.
Audiologists are trained in the evaluation of hearing of adults, infants and children of all ages. An audiologist has received an Au.D. (Clinical Doctorate in Audiology), or a Master’s or Doctoral degree from an accredited university graduate program in audiology. Audiologists conduct a wide variety of tests to determine the exact nature of an individual’s hearing problem. They present a variety of treatment options to patients with hearing impairment. Audiologists dispense and fit hearing aids, administer tests of balance to evaluate dizziness, and provide hearing rehabilitation training. In addition, audiologists assess central auditory processing skills and provide assistance in the management of tinnitus.
