Surgery
Ear, Nose, Throat & Neck Surgery
ENT surgery is the oldest type of surgery in the United States and is one of the more elaborate fields of surgical specialty services. Advanced technology and a broad range of procedures are often utilized to treat patients and include major reconstructive surgery to correct injury or abnormalities.
Ear Surgery
Typically, ear surgery is used to correct defects causing the loss or impairment of hearing. Procedure performed by Dr. Holmes include:
- Myringotomy with Pressure Equalizing Tubes – Removal of fluid in the middle ear with insertion of tiny ear tubes in the eardrums to reduce the incidence of fluid buildup in persons with chronic ear infection.
- Stapedectomy – Removal of all or part of a bone in the middle ear called the stapes
- Tympanoplasty – Reconstruction of the eardrum
Throat Surgery
Common throat surgical procedures performed by ENT & Audiology Associates include the removal of tonsils (tonsillectomy) or adenoids (adenoidectomy). The tonsils (in back of the throat and on each side) and adenoids (higher up the throat at the rear the nose) are masses of lymph tissue that help to process germs that enter the body. However, they can become chronically infected, in which case their removal is required to alleviate breathing problems and the recurrence of infections. Furthermore, chronic inflammation of the adenoids can cause repeated middle ear infections that could result in hearing loss.
Nose and Sinus Surgery
Surgery of the nose can include procedures that treat sinus diseases or more advanced endoscopic surgery for nasal or sinus disorders. This can eliminate the need for external incisions and greater surgical precision. Other common surgical procedures include correction of a deviated nasal septum (septoplasty) and for chronic nasal congestion. Dr. Holmes employs state-of-the-art balloon sinuplasty techniques and CT image guided surgery.
Neck Surgery
Dr. Holmes performs intensive surgical procedures for the treatment of malignant head and neck cancers. Also, Dr. Holmes has extensive experience in surgical treatment of thyroid nodules and thyroid cancer.
There are a wide range of procedures and treatments that Dr. Holmes can perform to offer you a better quality of life.
